Meet Our Pastor
Bio, Dr. Calvin Wittman

Dr. Calvin Wittman was born in Ohio and raised in Texas. He is the son of a lay pastor and the grandson of a vocational evangelist. He and his wife Diane have been married more than 27 years and have three children, Tyler, Joel, and Natalie.

Dr. Wittman is a graduate of Baylor University, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with his Master of Divinity and holds a Doctor of Ministry (D. Min.) in Expository Preaching from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. He has also studied at the University of Alcala de Henares outside of Madrid, Spain. In 2005, Dr. Wittman was awarded an honorary Doctor of Missiology from Yun Byun Baptist Theological Seminary. He is a veteran of the United States Navy and has worked as a news anchor on both television and radio stations in Texas.

Dr. Wittman and his wife, Diane, were appointed by the International Mission Board in February 1995, and served as missionaries in Spain. He worked with the IMB until January 1998. The family returned to Texas where Dr. Wittman served as a pastor before being called to Applewood Baptist Church. He has been serving at Applewood as Senior Pastor since October, 1999.

Dr. Wittman currently serves as a trustee at Criswell College. He regularly contributes to "Open Windows," a monthly LifeWay devotional publication and has contributed sermons to Lifeway's pastor resources division.
